KILN WORK (FUSING/SLUMPING)

Fusing and slumping are techniques with a limitless range of opportunity to create unique works of art. In this class, you will cut pieces of art glass and arrange them according to a design of your choosing to then be placed in a kiln for about twelve hours. The pieces become fused, creating a three-dimensional piece which is placed over a mold and re-heated. While hot, it “slumps” over the mold and permanently takes on its new shape. Skills you will gain in this class include glass selection, cutting, pattern arrangement, kiln operation and using molds. After completing this course, you will have the skills to be able to continue pursuing this art form on your own. To learn more about fusing with KOG's glass, visit Fusing with Kokomo.

NOTE:  Because the projects produced in this class must remain in the kiln overnight, they will need to be picked up the following day. If you are unable to return to the studio, we can send your projects to you for the cost of shipping.
Due to safety concerns, students must arrive wearing the proper attire: substantial leather shoes, long pants (jeans or work pants), and a cotton shirt are required. Do not wear polyester or nylon, as these materials can melt to your skin if they come in contact with hot glass. The studio can be cold in the winter, so dress according to the weather.
Classes fill up fast, so you will want to sign up early.
